Update on research at UTS

After collecting thermal, acoustic and indoor air quality data on our 3 hemp mini-builds and our brick veneer control build at  UTS’s Tech Lab over the summer, we’re installing the data loggers again to see how they will  perform over the Sydney winter.  In the meantime, given the footprint of lime production, R & D is ongoing into investigating further low carbon binder options, to find a balance between minimising the amount of lime we’re using and retaining the performance benefits the lime gives to a hempcrete mix.

UTAS Forestry Building Refurbishment

In other news the major project to refurbish UTAS’s Forestry Building on their Hobart Campus with hemp, is due to commence in a few weeks. A long time in the planning, the lead on this install will be Shane Hannan with the Hannan Build crew (from Dungog NSW) as well as a few experienced installers from Tasmania. Shane is one of Australia’s most experienced hemp builders who is recognised for the beautiful feature walls he’s installed, especially throughout the Hunter Valley.  The build will involve creating multiple circular teaching and learning spaces. https://www.woodsbagot.com/global-studio/news/ideas/university-of-tasmania-forestry-building-to-feature-innovative-alternative-to-concrete/
