Congratulations to MIH and Ausuntech: $20 Million total Backing Two Landmark NSW Hemp Projects

iHemp NSW extends our warmest congratulations to Murray Industrial Hemp (MIH) and Ausuntech Pty Ltd, both awarded $10 million by the NSW Government in the space of a single week. It’s a landmark moment for the industry we’ve spent years advocating for, and we couldn’t be prouder to see it land.

Two Projects, One Big Step Forward

Murray Industrial Hemp will use its funding to redevelop a former redgum sawmill site on Moulamein Road in Barham, installing hemp decortication equipment alongside a dedicated hemp brick manufacturing line. MIH Executive Director Leigh Fletcher pointed to growing recognition from builders and architects of hemp’s thermal performance and fire resistance as a sign the industry’s moment has arrived. The project traces back to groundwork laid in 2021 by the Western Murray Land Improvement Group, and will now move through planning with Murray River Council.

Ausuntech Pty Ltd, meanwhile, is establishing Australia’s first large-scale linen-quality hemp fibre processing facility at Gundaline Station near Darlington Point, a $26.77 million project using proven European processing technology, with construction beginning Q3 2026 and operations targeted for Q4 2027.

Both projects were announced as part of Round 2 of the NSW Sustainable Communities Program’s Economic Development and Infrastructure Round, among 14 successful projects statewide. Together, they represent the kind of serious processing infrastructure this industry has needed for a long time, turning hemp from a promising idea into a real regional manufacturing sector, with genuine jobs and supply chains to match.

We’re Here to Support You

iHemp NSW has been proud to play a part in advocating for the conditions that made this possible, and we’re even prouder of what MIH and Ausuntech are building. As both projects move from funding into delivery, there’s a lot ahead: planning processes, supply chain build-out, market development, and the ongoing work of bringing growers, builders, and government along for the journey. That’s exactly the work iHemp NSW exists to support.

Congratulations again to both teams — this is a genuinely proud moment for the entire Australian hemp industry, and we can’t wait to see what comes next.
