Janet trained and worked as a nurse and midwife. Initially, Janet pursued a pilot’s license thinking she would use this in conjunction with her nursing, but then she met Michael and adopted the relocating lifestyle of a serving army officer’s wife.

As a volunteer, Janet established the NSW School Canteen Association, eventually bringing together mainland State and Territories to form a national body. Janet served the Federation of Canteens in Schools as a volunteer Executive Director for ten years.

In the year 2000 Janet returned to the family farm to care for her aging father.  The constant moving and resettling of four children across Australia every one to two years for twenty-four years made it easy to buy and stay.

Janet changed what the farm produced by firstly growing spelt, and now licensed to grow hemp. Janet has also been an owner-builder of a hemp home.

Recently Agrifutures acknowledged Janet for her concept of a hemp co-operative in Central West NSW, with the manufacturing of hemp insulation within the proposed rail hub at Parkes.

Always an active member in her community, Janet is currently the Public Officer for the local Lions Club and Treasurer of the iHemp NSW Association.
