Australian Hemp Masonry Company (Corporate Member)

Leaders in Hemp Construction Since 1999

The Australian Hemp Masonry Company (AHM) is one of Australia’s most experienced and technically rigorous hemp construction specialists, active in the sector since 1999. Their work began with industrial hemp agronomic research trials and has continued through long-standing partnerships with Australian growers and regional processors, with a clear focus on establishing reliable standards for building-grade hemp hurd.

AHM’s hemp building systems were developed and tested over a six-year research program at the Australian Centre for Construction Innovation (UNSW), followed by a further six years of real-world field testing. Subsequent research in 2019–20 assessed the performance impacts of different hurd consistencies and benchmarked AHM products against European hempcrete systems, confirming comparable quality and performance.

AHM works closely with architects, designers and builders, supplying materials, technical guidance and training nationwide. To date, AHM has supplied materials to more than 250 residential hempcrete projects across Australia, spanning diverse and often extreme climates, as well as projects in New Zealand and Singapore. Several Australian projects have received energy efficiency and sustainable design awards.

Currently, AHM is engaged in a three-year ARC-funded research project with the University of Technology Sydney, generating Australia’s first comprehensive thermal, acoustic and indoor air quality data for hemp buildings. This includes research into prefabricated hemp panels and next-generation low-carbon binders.

AHM’s lime binders, hemp-lime renders and insulation products are manufactured in Sydney, using hemp sourced from Australian farmers and processors.
